If Alabama holds on ...

Not necessarily tainted, but if McCoy does not get hurt, does Texas win?

Taking the all-time winningest college football quarterback out of the game early on, especially when Texas had all of the momentum, was a huge blow.

It could have potentially been 14-0 Texas early on in the game with McCoy.

But the game was over the second McCoy went down.

And the second half is underway...

Injuries are part of the game. The better team still won.

You sound so certain.

I am not so certain, though.

I 100 percent agree about the injuries, though. Why did Texas not have a more experienced quarterback between McCoy, a 5th year senior, and Gilbert, a true freshman?

On the other hand, I stand by my belief that if McCoy plays, Texas is crowned the national champion.

First of all, Texas went up 6-0 early. With McCoy, they are up 14-0, or at least 10-0. Texas had to pretty much go in stall mode to protect those six points. McCoy was moving the ball at ease in his limited time in. He even said he knew everything Alabama was doing and when they are doing it.

Also, in the second quarter, Texas played ultra-conservative, resulting in multiple three-and-outs. The Texas defense was on the field constantly, and with McCoy in the game, he picks up a few first downs and gives his defense a little time to catch their breath. Alabama scored 17 points through their offense in the second quarter. I am not sure they even get three possessions with McCoy in the game.

Last, the two crucial turnovers in the game were the shuffle pass that was intercepted and the blindside sack/fumble. If McCoy is in the game, neither of those happen. Texas was very timid in their playcalling and called "the safest play" in the shuffle pass. With McCoy, they do not have to be careful and take a shot downfield. With the blindside sack/fumble, inexperience on the quarterback that was the cause. McCoy would have recognized the blitz and protection scheme and either prepared for the sack, rolled out or got rid of the ball early.
