 UWF scores season-high 91 points in victory.
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The West Florida women’s basketball team scored a season-high 91 points to take down Alabama-Huntsville 91-68 on the road on Saturday afternoon. The Argos shot 50 percent from the field and had three players score in double-digits in the 91-68 victory, led by senior Amy Drake (Niceville, Fla./Winthrop) with 23 total points and five steals.
Tiffany Williams (St. Petersburg, Fla./North Florida) turned in an 8-11 performance from the field on her way to 19 points, while Jessie Ivey’s 3-4 mark from long range earned her 12 points. Drake and Williams teamed up for a total of 14 assists, eight and six respectively. Ivey and Lauren Fagler (Gainesville, Fla./Pensacola JC) tallied six boards each, followed by Dominique Boykins (Houston, Texas/North Shore HS) with four. The teams kept it close in the first half with UAH going up by two at the 13 minute mark. West Florida, however, responded with a 13-4 run for a 27-19 lead at 7:17 before the Lady Chargers called a timeout. The Argos refused to let up in the remaining minutes as Williams went on a 10-point scoring spree in the last seven minutes to put her team ahead 46-35 at the half. Ivey knocked down a three to open the second half, combining with Williams for seven unanswered points in just over a minute. UWF led by double-digits for the remainder of the way, up by as much as 26, and closing out with a 23-point victory to improve to 13-9, 4-3 in the GSC. |
