Dolphins come up short to Bulldogs in Kick-Off Classic, 15-9.

Both Crestview and Gulf Breeze can take positives from Thursday night's Kick-Off Classic.

Gulf Breeze played tough, and came out of the game injury-free after losing four players in the game just one year ago.

Crestview came out on top, and looks to have an offense that will make them a threat come time for district play.

After the freshman and junior varsity teams played the first half, and Crestview outscoring Gulf Breeze 27-0 in that time, the varsity teams took the field for the second half.

The half started off with a near perfect drive from the Bulldogs. Crestview used a balanced attack to drive 76 yards in just six plays, capping off the drive with a seven yard touchdown run from running back D.D. Johnson.

Gulf Breeze would answer with a 36-yard field goal, cutting the lead to four in favor of Crestview.

After a botched snap on a punt, Gulf Breeze quarterback Kyle Schnackenberg connected with wide receiver Cody Warford for a seven yard touchdown strike, giving the Dolphins a 9-7 lead.

Crestview would respond with a five play, 66-yard drive, once again capped off with a Johnson touchdown run on 4th-and-goal. A two-point conversion run by quarterback Jason Parker would run the score to 15-9, Crestview.

Parker finished the night 5-of-7 for 84 yards and Johnson ended his night with eight carries for 47 yards and two touchdowns.

Both teams kick off the season next Friday, as Gulf Breeze plays host to Choctaw and Crestview travels to Jacksonville to take on Paxon.
